联邦自由党推出新计划，将为中产阶层投资经济安全和增长，为加国公民照看患有严重疾病的亲人提供福利。
前任万锦市多福医院家庭医疗主任、联邦自由党万锦-多福区(Markham-Stouffville)候选人费普真医生(Dr. Jane Philpott)表示，几乎每一个加拿大人都会在某个时期面临照看亲人的重大责任，但是很多人得不到关爱护理的津贴。
万锦-於人村区(Markham-Unionville)自由党候选人江邦固(Bang-Gu Jiang)表示，“华人社区非常看重相互关爱，不论是作为社区、还是作为加拿大人，这都是我们的内在品质。”
“按照现在的体制，只有当家人遭遇六个月内即将亡故的风险，才能得到关爱护理的津贴” ，列治文山(Richmond Hill)自由党候选人马万里(Majid Jowhari)表示。“这就意味著很多加拿大人没有条件获得这项福利，而需要被迫放弃他们的工作、花光他们的积蓄，才能努力为自己病危的亲人提供最基本的照顾。这不仅不公平，也损害我们的经济和我们的中产阶层。”
正因如此，自由党若组成政府，除了为中产阶层减税、创造更好的儿童福利金之外，也将扩大就业保险中的关爱照顾福利计划，为所有照看严重疾病的加拿大人提供。自由党将还将为该计划打造更大的灵活性，容许原本六个月的津贴可以在一年内分段申报。这一津贴计划将是每年1.9亿的投资，并且不会增加就业保险的缴纳金额。
万锦-康山区(Markham-Unionville)自由党候选人麦家廉(Hon. John McCallum)表示，“加拿大人在照看自己病重的亲人的时候，应该得到可靠的财政支援以及真正的就业保障。”
“作为一名退伍军人，我深知人民无法单独承担照看亲人的责任”，Aurora-Oak Ridges选区自由党候选人艾蕾娜(Leona Alleslev)补充道。“贾斯汀·杜鲁多具有增长中产阶层、为迫切需要的人们提供真正关爱支援的计划。自由党一贯与加拿大的普通家庭站在一起，我们也将一如既往，贯彻我们为照看亲人的人们提供的计划。”
Liberals Make it Easier to Take Care of Seriously Ill Family Members
The Liberal Party of Canada has a new plan that will invest in economic security and growth for the middle class by giving Canadians greater access to benefits when caring for a seriously ill family member. Nearly every Canadian family faces the important responsibility of caregiving at some point, but far too many are unable to access compassionate care benefits, said Dr. Jane Philpott, Liberal candidate for Markham-Stouffville and former Chief of Family Medicine at Markham Stouffville Hospital.
“The Chinese Community knows the importance of caring for each other – it’s intrinsic to who we are, not only as community members, but as Canadians,” said Bang-Gu Jiang, Liberal Candidate for Markham-Unionville.
“Under the current system, you only qualify for compassionate care benefits if a family member is at risk of dying within a six-month period, added Majid Jowhari, Liberal Candidate for Richmond Hill. This means that many Canadians do not qualify for benefits, and are forced to leave their jobs and drain their savings to provide essential care to ailing loved ones. This is not only unfair, but it hurts our economy and our middle class.”
That is why – in addition to cutting taxes for the middle class and creating a larger Canada Child Benefit – a Liberal government will make Employment Insurance Compassionate Care Benefits available to any Canadian providing care to a seriously ill family member. Liberals will also build more flexibility into the program by allowing the six-month benefit to be split and claimed in blocks of time over a year-long period. The benefit is an investment of $190 million per year and will require no increase to Employment Insurance premiums.
