On Sunday, February 7, 2016 at 2 pm, the Performance Ensemble of Canada will be dazzling their River Run Centre audience with fiery bow work, warm string sounds and stunning choreographies. The group is composed of 53 young musicians from Guelph, Etobicoke, Kingston and Montreal Suzuki music schools and 13 dancers from the Guelph Youth Dance Company. Their ages range from 11 to 19 years old. They are preparing to go on a tour of China with the League of Astonishing Strings. The tour will take place from March 10 to March 20, 2016 and is truly a “once‐in‐a lifetime” experience for the participants, their music and dance schools.

The students have been working since September towards this amazing adventure, rehearsing long hours and meeting for extended workshops near Kingston in September and in Montreal in November. The weekend of Feb. 5 to 7 will be their last intensive joint workshop before going on tour and will culminate in their China Tour Send-off Concert.

Tickets are available at the River Run Centre box office: 519-763-3000, www.riverrun.ca

League of Astonishing Strings organizer John Crozman say: “The tour will take place from March 10 ‐ March 20, 2016 and is truly a “once‐in‐a lifetime” experience for the participants on many levels:

The tour will include 5 performances in some of the best concert halls in the world including the Shanghai Oriental Arts Center which has been host to a number of distinguished ensembles including the Berlin Philharmonic and the Philadelphia Orchestra.
The performances will take place over a 10-day period mimicking a professional tour schedule giving the students a rare opportunity to experience the life of a professional touring musician.

China is on the front pages of the newspaper almost every day and this tour will provide the young participants with an opportunity to visit, explore, and interact with a country which is an emerging superpower. The tour stops include: Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Suzhou, and Xuzhou.

This tour will provide two valuable opportunities for cultural exchange, one with the people of China and the other with the other performing ensembles from across Canada.”

In summary, Crozman says: “the Suzuki String School of Guelph and the Guelph Youth Dance Company have been given an opportunity to achieve something that even most professional orchestras in North America could only dream of.”

Following the tour, the students will make presentations in local schools to share their experience with their peers.

The groups are now involved in a fundraising campaign to keep costs as low as possible for the participant’s families. To donate please go to https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/suzuki-string-school-of-guelph/ and select: China Tour.
