Toronto’s Winterfolk XIV Blues and Roots Festival – which will run from February 12 – 14, 2016, will present a jam-packed night of music as a teaser to the upcoming all-ages, mid-winter, weatherproof urban blues and roots festival.

Every year the festival engages in special “preview” performances that showcase some of the finest emerging and established talent the city has to offer. We want audiences to get a glimpse of what will be on offer for the upcoming festival. Presenter Lillian Wauthier, a longtime supporter and promoter of fine roots and folk music has a great lineup in store, including folk revival duo Sue & Dwight, roots troubadour David Storey, hillbilly swing duo HOTCHA!, and finger-pickin’ good Brian Gladstone accompanied by guitarist extraordinaire, Noah Zacharin.

Sue and Dwight’s music is honest and insightful with themes of peace, courage, and social justice. Rich harmonies are front and centre in their musical arrangements, supported by laid-back guitars and accordion. At their live shows they share, without pretention, their stories of the prairies, life in the big city, and travels in East Africa, creating a warm and intimate atmosphere. www.sueanddwight.com

David Storey’s debut full-length album Comin’ Home is aptly named. He’s indeed coming home, having taken a break from performing since 2011, and he’s back on stage enthralling fans with his simple but powerful and literate folk-rock ballads. His “stories” describe characters, situations and emotions that are delivered with wit and honesty. His www.davidstoreymusic.com

HOTCHA!’s award-winning, high-energy hillbilly swing duo blends old-time Western, bluegrass, early swing and country gospel delivered with the energy of a runaway train. Featuring soaring vocals, lively accordion, gritty guitar, wailing harmonica and big-beat bodhran. www.winterfolk.com/hotcha

Brian Gladstone, Winterfolk’s Artistic Director, is a free-spirited artist, taking an organic, eclectic and often humourous approach to roots music. Gladstone has released four homespun and original albums, each gaining global acclaim and worldwide airplay. www.briangladstone.com

Noah Zacharin “is a poet, a songwriter, a singer whose performances are engaging and personal, and draw from a catalogue of originals and well-chosen cover tunes that span the genres of jazz, blues, folk, country, bluegrass, pop, and beyond. Zacharin has released 6 CD’s of his own work. He is frequently found on stage playing guitar for many local luminaries. Two new CD’s have been completed and will soon be released. www.noahsong.com
