Trump’s rant about the WHO being China-centric is so out of line, that I really start to think his narcissistic personality is getting the better part of his judgments.
Let’s review how many world organizations or signed agreements Trump has threatened to boycott, to withdraw from or to cut findings to. This is only a partial list (I’m sure I missed quite a few others): TPP, Paris Climate Agreement, Iran Nuclear Agreement, NAFTA, WTO and now WHO. On each instances, he cited all of them do not fit his doctrines of “America First” and “American Exceptionalism”, which he has been advocating since his presidential campaign.
There is really nothing too seriously wrong with “America First”, because every leader of every country all think of his country’s benefits first, but nobody could say it because nobody has the strongest military in the world to back it up. It’s really the shameless manner that Trump says it raises the ire in everyone. As for “American Exceptionalism”, I really doubt Trump has a clue where the term originated from and what the the context really mean. But from his actions, it appears that he interpreted “American exceptionalism” as “American Exemptionalism”, basically he thinks America is exempted from the rules of law, hence getting out of any signed agreement is totally OK.
I’m really baffled by his ranting about the WHO being China-centric, as we all witnessed, during the first 5-6 weeks of the breakout of the Covid-19 in Wuhan, the epic center at the time, while China’s leaders mobilized the whole country to fight this never-been-seen virus as the western world watched on, some in amusement. The WHO had to monitor and work with Chinese Medical experts closely to help contain the spread, Mr. Trump, were you jealous of the close working relationship between China and the WHO? You really cannot stand America is 2nd in anything? Now you got your wish, America is the epicenter of the Covid-19 in the world! I can guarantee you Mr. Trump, when it comes to Covid-19, no one in the world would want to take away your America First, US-centric. (By Patrick Law)
